Jean Charlotte Thomas

THOMAS, Jean Charlotte Thomas passed away Saturday Aug. 17th, 2019 at the age of 91 in her daughter’s home surrounded by family. Jean was born April 22nd, 1928 in Saint Charles, Michigan to the late Clarence and Tillie Mendyk. She lived with her grand-daughter, Amy Waszak and her three great-grandchildren. Jean served as member of the Catholic community until her last day. She was employed by the Ed Kirky grocery store, TPI, and helped co-own Sweeney’s party store with her husband Roy. Jean’s most precious moments were spent around family. Her most enjoyed past times were watching the Detroit Tigers, spontaneous trips to the casino, and remaining rich in her faith.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Linda (Tom) McSweyn, Cathy (Ned) Gray, and son Gregg (Patty) Kushion; grand-children Michael (Jodi) Brady, Amy Waszak, Thomas (Allison) Brady, Tina (Brian) Polzin, Sara (Chris) Silvernail; Step grand-children Janice (Jim) Wilson and David McSweyn; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (Juatta) Mendyk; a sister, Gerry (Clark) Giller; and many nieces, nephews, one in particular Marlene Kushion who never forgot her birthday. She was predeceased by her husbands’ Leonard Kushion, Roy Sweeney, and Lyle Thomas; four brothers Clarence, Max, Raymond, Jim Mendyk, and a sister Henrietta Fries.

Jean’s last words she wished to be shared for her loved ones were, “Don’t grieve for me now. I’m free, following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back, and left it all. Know I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work, and play the ace of spade. Tasks left undone must stay that way. If my parting has left a void fill it with my joy, laughter, love and kisses.”

There will be a graveside burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in St. Charles on Wednesday, Aug. 21st at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Ernesto Mariona will officiate. There will be no funeral in regards to Jean’s wishes but following the burial family and friends are encouraged to join the family at 11620 Andrews Road in St. Charles to celebrate in the life of Jean. Arrangements are entrusted to C.M. Humpula Funeral Home.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Covenant Hospice for their loving care.
