Rosemary Kay Smits



SMITS, Rosemary Kay, age 73, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019 at Covenant Healthcare with family by her side. She was born in Saginaw County June 4, 1945, daughter of the late John Sauve and Vivian Hill. Rosemary graduated from Chesaning High School. She married Gunars P. Smits on February 20, 1969 and he survives her.


Rosemary worked at Fullerton Tool for several years.  She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of St. Charles and took pride in being a lector and her involvement with Christian Services.  She was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital for many years.  Rosemary was committed to and content in her Catholic faith.  Rosemary enjoyed needlepoint, reading and hosting family gatherings.  Her greatest joy came from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Regardless of her numerous health issues, news of or visits from them always brought her joy.


Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her husband Gunars Smits; four children, Felicia (Kelly) Gewirtz, Mitchell (Candy) Krugielki, Amy (Chris) Beldyga and Christopher Smits; grandchildren, Angela Gewirtz, Ashley (Rey) Cruz, Stephanie Gewirtz, Brandon (Kelcie) Krugielki, Brentt Krugielki and Chelsea Jensen; great-grandchildren, Jayce, Braxtyn, Chaselynn, Cali, Elijah, Alivia and Jaxson; siblings, John Sauve, Pat Dundas and Sharon Wirth; in-laws, Tillie Henninger, Don Seeley, Carmen Torres, Claudia Miller, Sylvia (Kim) Stephens, Zina Smits, Askold Smits and Dean (Paulette) Smits; special best friend, Kailyn; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by siblings, Roger Henninger, Mike Henninger, Karen Sauve and Nina Seeley; and in-law, Richard Dundas.


A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 708 Sanderson St., St. Charles. Father Joe Miller will officiate. The family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind.
